Every new recipe we develop is a chance for us to send cakes in the post that surprise your taste buds and create moments that linger in your memory.
But don’t take our word for it. This year, we entered another two cakes into the Taste of the West Awards, and we’re extremely proud to announce that both won gold. The winners were; our Triple Chocolate Paradise Cake, and the Angelic Carrot Cake.

The Taste of the West Awards
The Taste of the West Awards is your guide to discovering the true essence of West Country food and drink. Championing exceptional food and drink in the region since 1991. Whether you’re a food enthusiast, a local producer, or simply someone who appreciates exceptional taste. When you see their logo, you can be confident that you are experiencing the finest flavours the region has to offer.
Covering Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, and Wiltshire. Our region is home to some of the best produce in the country.
Every year, they hold an awards program that is split into 26 various categories. Ranging from sweet bakery to bacon and cider. With three rounds of judging, the first assesses each entrant, where commended, silver or gold awards can be awarded. But not all products are awarded at this stage!
The second and final round narrows down the competition to the top product in each category, closing with a champion product for each category. Only the highest scoring gold products can move on to the second round. In the 2021 vegan category, our Vegan Chocolate and Pistachio Cake was crowned champion! Our Angelic Carrot Cake is a finalist this year, possibly adding a second champion to our range!
Chefs, producers, food writers, and other industry experts make up the judging panel each year. More than just taste is evaluated. Each product’s aroma, texture, and appearance is also assessed.

Behind our awards
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes as we conceptualise and create our award winning cakes? Our creative process starts with a general discussion, where different ideas and concepts are sounded. We then go on to develop different ingredients, techniques and designs until we have a cake that strikes the perfect balance of taste and aesthetics.
This process can be wrapped up in a matter of weeks. However, it usually takes some months of experimentation before we have a product that is ready to move on to be tested for it’s durability.
As we send cakes in the post, it is vital to ensure that any new cake can withstand transit and arrive at your doorstep in exactly the same condition as when it left our bakery. Any hiccup in this stage, and it’s back to tweaking the recipe and design.
Once a product has the greenlight at this stage, we can begin working on photography and getting it ready to launch on our shop page. Our bakers then get to work so there are plenty of cakes for our customer to try!
