Where do you deliver?
For UK deliveries, we only deliver to the ‘GB Delivery Area’ of mainland England, Wales and Scotland (excluding Highlands). We regret that we can’t deliver to the Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, other GB islands, Northern Ireland, BFPO addresses and PO Box numbers. For overseas deliveries (fruit cakes only) we deliver to many parts of the world but we regret there are some countries to which we cannot send cakes because of problems with logistics and/or customs restrictions. The countries we currently mail fruit cakes to are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, USA.

What is the cost of delivery?
Delivery charges vary according to the level of service required. Standard weekday delivery is £5.95. A choice of delivery services is provided at checkout..

When will you dispatch my order?
All orders for UK delivery are dispatched by express courier for next-day delivery. We cannot deliver on the same day the order is received. Orders received before 1pm GMT can be dispatched the same day if the order requires it (for delivery the following day). For orders received after 1pm, the earliest date of dispatch will be the next working day.

What are the delivery timescales?
All UK orders are dispatched by DPD Local parcel service. Orders may arrive up to 2 working days after dispatch although the large majority arrive the next working day. Our delivery times are for guidance and are not a guarantee. We are not liable for delivery delays once an order has been dispatched. We don’t deliver on Sundays and Mondays.  Overseas orders (fruit cakes only) are dispatched by DPD International or Royal Mail International service and delivery lead times vary enormously depending on the country of destination (we have given some guidance on the checkout page but this is only advisory and can’t be guaranteed).

Will you deliver on a nominated day?
In particular, can you send a birthday cake to arrive on the birthday? Yes, for UK deliveries we’ll do our best to deliver on the day you nominate, based on DPD ‘next day’ service levels but please bear in mind this isn’t a guarantee because the courier service is out of our control. For overseas orders it is not possible to nominate a delivery day as delivery lead times are too variable.

How do I know my order is on its way?
You will receive an email confirmation when you place an order and a second email when the order has been dispatched which will provide a tracking number. If you don’t receive the emails please check your spam/junk folder. The delivery service provider (DPD or Royal Mail) will send an SMS and/or email to the recipient advising them that a parcel is on its way (this is subject to the order booker providing the phone/email details of the recipient at time of ordering).

Does the delivery have to be signed for?
UK deliveries are via DPD Local and they provide a sophisticated tracking service, but it is reliant on the recipient’s mobile phone number and/or email address having been supplied by the person who placed the order. It is preferred that someone is available to receive the parcel and sign for it. On the day of delivery DPD will contact the recipient to advise expected time of delivery and to offer delivery options such as leaving the parcel with a neighbour or a DPD collection point (local shop) or leaving in a ‘safe place’ agreed with the recipient. If DPD cannot deliver successfully they will leave a card or send an SMS explaining that a delivery has been attempted and giving details of how a re-delivery can be arranged. At no point will DPD reveal what is in the parcel or who sent it. There is a barcode on the parcel that DPD  will scan when they deliver the cake so that we know it was safely delivered. Requirements for a signature on overseas deliveries vary according to the destination country and the mailing service being used.

Can I send to multiple addresses?
No, each address requires its own order.

Can I send multiple cakes to one address?
No, each cake requires its own order.

Can I change a delivery address or reschedule a delivery date?
We regret that once the order has been dispatched we can’t make changes.

Do you do returns?
The products are perishable and we cannot provide a refund unless they are proved to be faulty or damaged, in which case please put the details in writing to us at: Fairman Trading Ltd., PO Box 5205, Bradford on Avon, BA15 5BU. In the very unusual circumstance of simply ‘not liking’ the cake, we regret this does not mean the cake is faulty and it does not warrant a refund.

Are the cakes suitable for vegetarians?
Yes, all our cakes (except Red Velvet) are vegetarian. We also make a vegan cake.

How long do the cakes keep?
If stored in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight, the sponge cakes for UK delivery will remain in good condition for up to 5 days after receipt (but it’s usually been devoured long before that!) The fruit cakes for overseas deliveries will have a minimum of three months shelf life upon receipt and after opening they should be kept in a cool, dry place and consumed within 14 days.

Can you personalise the cake?
When we send a birthday cake it’s usually for a grown-up. We regret we cannot supply personalised cakes (with children’s names etc.) or bespoke cakes (in terms of decoration, recipe or any other variation), but we do provide a personalised message card to accompany the cake. The message can be in any language accepted by the message box on the checkout page.

Do you include an invoice?
No, because it’s a gift, there will be no invoice with the cake and no indication of the price. Also there will be nothing to identify the sender (but we do recommend you say who the cake is from on the message card).

Do you do bulk orders?
A bulk order is more than 5 cakes. If you wish to order more than 5 cakes then please email us for special arrangements and we’ll be pleased to supply you.

Is there VAT on cake?
In the UK, cake is zero rated for VAT. However, the lovely cake tins are subject to VAT and this is reflected in the pricing.
