Tea and cake, the perfect combination
It’s set to be a busy week at The Gift of Cake, baking and preparing orders for our tea loving customers. All wanting to send a cake for afternoon tea this week. As, if you haven’t already guessed, it’s national afternoon tea week!
In the UK, afternoon tea is typically served between two and five in 5-star hotels, tea rooms, and at home. And during the second week of August, afternoon tea week pays homage to this great British tradition.
Here’s how we will be celebrating afternoon tea week at The Gift of Cake. And for the curious, we’ve included a few related blogs down below.
Send our Angelic Carrot Cake by post
Whether you’re going to the Savoy, or inviting friends round for a catch-up, wherever afternoon tea is served. There’s bound to be cake.
And countless varieties too, all alongside endless finger sandwiches and pastries. However a few classics, cucumber sandwiches, scones, and our favourite cakes, such as a Sublime Victoria Sponge, or slice of a Heavenly Lemon Drizzle are essential for the spread.
If like us, you’ll be enjoying afternoon tea week at home (or in the office) or even over a video call, then take the hassle out of it and send a cake for afternoon tea week!
Afternoon Tea Week in The Gift of Cake office
It’s been a record breaking summer across the UK. Down in the South West, temperatures are hovering around 30 degrees Celsius. Here in the office, we’re reaching for a slice of a refreshingly zingy lemon drizzle during afternoon tea week.
A national favourite, and for good reason. Our Heavenly Lemon Drizzle is bursting with freshly squeezed lemon juice. There’s a reason we all reflexively reach for the tartness of lemons during the summer months. And a slice of well made lemon drizzle is a slice of restorative sweet and tangy sun-beating goodness.
To go with our slice, we need tea! To find out what one to brew, we conducted a quick office poll to find our favourite. Classic breakfast tea came out on top, narrowly beating earl grey. We offer both, produced by the wonderful folk at Devonshire Tea, both blends are sourced from ethical estates in India and Africa, and packed into indiviudually wrapped ‘stitched’ tea bags. With no glue or staples!
